Are you an up-and-coming journalist who gets your news from reputable outlets like NPR, the Washington Post, BBC and the New York Times … but on Instagram? On a location-specific subreddit? In 60-second TikTok explainers? Well, our fall 2021 digital news internship may be right for you.
As an intern at WPLN News, you will get hands-on, intensive experience producing stories for an award-winning radio newsroom through the lens of digital and social media. This fall, our intern will be working primarily with WPLN’s digital news editor, Rachel Iacovone, as they expand radio stories online; create photo galleries, graphics and videos for social media; dig into data and interactive visualizations; and work on digital-only stories, like where to find Nashville’s more than 100 Black-owned food establishments.
We’d love to work with someone who:
- Is an excellent writer and has a solid understanding of journalism
- Knows how to use the Big Three social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)
- Can take a digital news article and make it better
We ask that interns commit at least two full days a week for 15 weeks, and we pay a $2,000 stipend for the semester. Given the nature of the digital internship, the work can be done remotely, but preference will be given to those with an understanding of Nashville.
Please send:
- a cover letter explaining what you hope to gain from this internship,
- a resume, and
- links to three or four examples of your digital/social media, writing or audio work
to [email protected]. The deadline to apply for our fall 2021 internship has been extended to Friday, Sept. 3.
