Nashville Public Radio’s newsroom is hiring a spring 2020 intern with a focus on podcasting.
As WPLN’s podcast intern, you will get hands-on, intensive experience, working on the station’s ambitious and award-winning podcast, The Promise. You’ll work side-by-side with reporter and producer Meribah Knight on the second season of the immersive and investigative podcast. You’ll learn how to gather archival sound, log tape and conduct in-depth research and reporting. You’ll also have the opportunity to work on other local favorites, including Curious Nashville, building your portfolio of radio stories and web posts.
What kind of applicants do we look for? Our top candidates work hard and are curious about the world around them. An interest in history, wonky city stuff and education policy is a plus. We want an intern who likes to dig for information and materials like a dog after a bone. It takes patience to sort through hours of tape, but it’s a great way to see how interviews are structured and hear what makes good tape. You need to thrive on deadlines and know what makes a sharp story angle. Excellent writing skills are a must. Previous reporting or audio storytelling experience is also a plus.
We provide a stipend, and we ask that interns commit two full days a week to the program for 15 weeks during Spring 2020.
Please send a) a cover letter explaining what you hope to gain from this internship, b) a resume, c) contact info for three references, and d) three writing or audio samples to [email protected].
The deadline to apply is Sunday, Dec. 8.
