The Nashville airport is adding another nonstop flight to the Bay Area. United Airlines announced Tuesday it will start flying daily to San Francisco on May 5, about a year after Southwest Airlines launched a direct flight to Oakland.

A Chinese pillow and mattress maker is moving into the former Whirlpool plant in La Vergne.

Hong Kong-based Sinomax announced Tuesday that it'll spend $28 million to convert the manufacturing facility on Hennessy Drive. The company plans to employ 350 people, starting in June.

The plant is the company's first in the United States. The factory will slash the cost to ship its bulky products, says Sinomax USA president Frank Chen.

New Jersey-based American Standard Brands, which makes bathroom and kitchen fixtures, announced in July that it wanted to open a facility in La Vergne by the end of next year. It was planning to renovate a former Whirlpool building.
