Nashville’s Inglewood Neighborhood Inches Toward Zoning Overlay To Slow Teardowns

Another Nashville neighborhood is likely to get a zoning overlay that limits home demolitions — as well as new construction that doesn’t fit with existing homes.

A section of Inglewood in East Nashville is one vote from finalizing the overlay after a council vote on Tuesday.

Councilman Anthony Davis, who represents the area, said some properties on the fringes of the overlay will be excluded because homeowners said they don’t want restrictions on how they can build.

“I realize we may have an issue in the Jackson Park area, which is the northern half of this overlay basically. And what I’ve said all along is: I don’t want to divide the neighborhood,” Davis said.
           

He expects some changes to
the overlay boundaries before a final vote later this month.

With the modifications, the overlay would no longer be the city’s largest, a distinction held by the Waverly-Belmont overlay that was
recently passed.
