One of Nashville’s largest nursing homes — which is owned by the city itself — has been forced to stop admitting new residents. State inspectors found violations, including allegations of patient abuse, at the 419-bed Bordeaux Long Term Care.
In one incident outlined by state health officials, a patient’s arm was broken when a nursing assistant tried to subdue the person. Another had bruises and accused a worker of being too rough.
Administrators acknowledge they should have done more in response. And the state agreed, coming down on the facility for how it trains employees to handle aggressive resident interactions.
The
violations come with a fine of $7,500. A special monitor has been appointed to review Bordeaux’s operations.

The facility now has to submit a plan of correction. Inspectors will revisit Bordeaux to make sure problems are fixed.
According to the Tennessee Department of Health, it’s been a decade since the facility has had admissions suspended for violations. It’s come under new management since then.
Instead of running the nursing home itself, Metro Government
hired a third-party as a way of trying to cut costs. Louisville-based Signature HealthCARE’s lease runs through 2020.
