The Belcourt Theatre has received the state’s highest honor in the arts.

Nashville’s only arthouse movie theater, which underwent a massive remodeling this year, is one of ten recipients from across Tennessee to be presented with a 2017 Governor’s Arts Award.

In a YouTube video posted Wednesday afternoon from Chattanooga, the head of the company that employed the driver of Monday’s fatal school bus crash said he was “deeply sorry.” Five students died in the crash. Six children are still in the intensive care unit at Erlanger hospital.

State officials suspect that nearly half of the 70 active wildfires burning across Tennessee were started on purpose. Ten of those broke out on one day this week.

Dolly Parton’s literacy program has hit an impressive milestone. Founded two decades ago by the singer-songwriter in her native Sevier County, the Imagination Library started out sending 1,500 books a month. It’s now hit one million free books a month to children around the globe.

Protests continued this weekend in Nashville, including a unity gathering in Centennial Park on Saturday and a march down Nolensville Pike on Sunday afternoon, where some 300 people held signs supporting illegal immigrants and other minorities.

One of Nashville’s most prominent advocates for female survivors of sex trafficking and drug abuse has just been named a CNN Top 10 Hero of the year. An ordained minister, Becca Stevens founded a program that helps women get off the streets, as well as beauty and home care line Thistle Farms.

Thistle Farms, a prominent Nashville nonprofit that sells products made by survivors of prostitution and human trafficking, has signed a national distribution deal with Whole Foods. It is the company’s biggest expansion to date.
