Part-Time Classical Host | Nashville Public Radio

Part-Time Classical Host

Nashville Public Radio’s 91Classical is looking for a new host, someone who is enthusiastic about bringing great music to a growing audience and eager to connect listeners to the wealth of classical talent in our community.

91Classical is the city’s first and only full-time classical radio station, but our classical music legacy stretches back to 1962. Our on air hosts strive to be friendly companions to a diverse body of listeners. We welcome classical listener “newbies” who are just discovering that they like the sound of an orchestra or string quartet, while also seeking to be an engaging resource for those who already have a deep appreciation for the genre.

Because the quality and quantity of fine art music-making in this city is expanding at an exciting pace, featuring local artists is a priority for us. 91Classical’s new host will play an important role as we explore new ways to reflect the breadth and diversity of music-making in Middle Tennessee.

The job is a part-time position. The primary responsibility is to host and book Live in Studio C, our weekly showcase of Midstate chamber musicians and ensembles. The job also entails maintaining a calendar of area events and performances and producing original online and broadcast content to keep our audience informed about and connected to our region’s vibrant classical music scene.

In addition, the successful candidate will host regular air shifts, support the station’s fundraising efforts and participate in public events to promote 91Classical.

The person we hire must possess a warm, conversational presence, strong writing skills, a strong knowledge of classical music, a deep interest in our performing arts community and a willingness to work collaboratively across station departments. In addition, the ability to draw and engage an audience and roll with the punches in a live setting, experience performing or speaking in public are musts and broadcast experience is a plus.

Please submit the following to musicjobs@wpln.org:

  • resume
  • references
  • audio or video clip(s) of you speaking or performing; give us an idea of how you would perform as a host
  • writing samples that show your ability to write warm, conversational copy
  • a letter explaining why you think you’d be a good fit for the job
