In the past, state officials have made trips overseas to convince international companies that Tennessee is a good place to do business. Governor Bill Haslam says the state will now have a year-round presence throughout the world by opening trade offices in Mexico, the UK, Germany and China.

Thursday, Knoxville-based Pilot Travel Centers finished a deal to buy the Flying J truck-stop chain for some $1.8 billion. But to close the deal, the Federal Trade Commission made Pilot sell off 26 stores, saying otherwise the lack of competition could have driven up diesel prices.
China is Tennessee’s third-largest trading partner, and state officials hope to strengthen that economic bond even further.
