Is A Holiday Week Ideal For Public Comment On A New Nashville Ballpark? Metro Councilman Says No

Members of the Metro Council are frustrated there aren’t more chances to weigh in on a proposed ballpark near the state capitol.  Executives on Tennessee’s Building Commission gave notice last week they’ll take comments from the public later this morning.

The mayor’s office is trying to push the deal through before the end of the year, and Councilman Charlie Tygard says it’s a lot to vet in a matter of weeks.  It includes a land-swap between Metro and the state, which will be paid millions of dollars to build new parking garages.

Tygard doubts this morning’s meeting is the best place to watch for pushback, since not everyone can make it downtown the Monday before Thanksgiving.

“How convenient is that, to both interested parties, and/or council members – those of us that have to work for a living.  It’s really not appropriate, to continue to take off work.”

Tygard noted another meeting with council members Saturday, but also questioned the fairness of trying to take public comment the weekend after Thanksgiving.
