A 25-year-old soldier from Fort Campbell died Monday in Afghanistan.  Staff Sergeant Sonny Christopher Zimmerman was killed on patrol by a rocket-propelled grenade in Paktiya Province.

Zimmerman played baseball in high school, and joined the Army shortly after graduating in Ohio in 2005, saying at the time he wanted to serve his country and help people.

His wife was also from Ohio, where the Lima News reports they were married last fall.  Also survived by his parents and step-daughter, Zimmerman is the seventh soldier from Fort Campbell to die in Afghanistan this year.
