Williamson County resident Ashley Judd is considering a run for US Senate in her home state of Kentucky. But Democratic leaders seem lukewarm about having the actress and activist try to unseat Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell.

When WFPL in Louisville surveyed Democratic state senators, many acknowledged Judd’s name recognition and deep pockets would be an advantage. Several called her a viable candidate. But as Ray Jones of Pikeville pointed out, she’s expressed strongly-held views over the years that might not go over well with Kentucky voters.

Most said there’s another woman better suited to the race and the job: Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundgren Grimes. But one way or the other, several say they think Judd is in a power position at the moment, with other potential candidates holding off on joining the race until she makes a decision.
