Alexander Teams with Democrats to Make Solar Panels More Economical

Republican Senator Lamar Alexander has teamed up with Democrats from Rhode Island and Colorado to make rooftop solar panels more economical.

The bi-partisan legislation they’ve proposed essentially insures the value of renewable energy systems. This puts the risk on the Department of Energy so more companies will go out and lease solar panels to homeowners, who often don’t have the upfront money to purchase them outright.

In a joint statement, Alexander says the program – called the Renewable Energy Access through Leasing Act – wouldn’t cost taxpayers anything. Companies leasing out solar panels would pay premiums to participate in the insurance program.
