State Prepping for Federal Shutdown

Tennessee Speaker of the House Beth Harwell was asked Thursday about the possible effects of a federal shutdown on state government.

Harwell says legislative leaders have met with the Haslam administration to discuss what the state is doing to prepare for a potential shutdown.

“The administration has already taken the necessary steps to draw down as much money as possible that is legitimately our money, to state government, now, rather than wait for any kind of emergency situation that might come to be.”

The state is trying to plan for any possibility, Harwell says, adding she can’t predict whether the shutdown will happen or not.
