Memorial Services Planned for Former Governor

A pair of memorial services open to the public have been planned to honor former Tennessee Governor Ned McWherter. The two-term Democrat died Monday after a battle with cancer.

One service will be Saturday at 2 pm in War Memorial Auditorium. Sunday, a ceremony will be held on the front lawn of the governor’s home in Dresden at 1:30 pm.

A statement from the family says they have been “overwhelmed with the outpouring of love from every corner of the state.”

In lieu of flowers, son Mike McWherter asks for donations to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
