Pair of Fort Campbell Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

Two 101st Airborne soldiers have died in Afghanistan according to the Department of Defense.

Both men were part of the same company in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team at Fort Campbell. They were killed by an improvised explosive device Saturday while they patrolled the Zhari District on foot.

Staff Sgt Jaime Newman was a decorated veteran with a Purple Heart. He was 27 years old and is survived by a son and daughter.

26-year-old officer Eric Yates was also killed in the attack. The 1st Lt. had been in the Army less than two years and is survived by his parents.
