Governor Bredesen Speaks About Vandalism of Murfreesboro’s New Mosque

Governor Phil Bredesen is calling for tolerance in the wake of weekend vandalism at the site of the new Islamic Center in Murfreesboro. Vandals poured gas over construction vehicles setting one on fire.

Bredesen asked Tennesseans to take a step back from the tension, reminding all that the country is based on religious freedom.

“…to ask people to please have great respect for anyone’s religious preferences and their rights to practice those in the United States. I think it goes right to the heart of what this country is about.”

He says, like a marriage quarrel, there is a line you don’t cross. The line of what is constitutionally protected, he said, is a hard one to jump back over.
