Yarbro to Ask for Recount in Bid to Unseat State Sen. Henry

A young Democratic challenger says he’ll ask for a recount in his close primary contest against a longstanding state senator.

Jeff Yarbro narrowly lost his bid to unseat incumbent Nashville Senator Douglas Henry. Election commission officials said this week Yarbro came within 13 votes of Henry’s total.

Now Yarbro’s campaign has announced it will ask that a recount be done “as quickly as possible.”

Whether that recount happens is up to the state Democratic party, which said Thursday afternoon it’s still waiting to receive a formal request from Yarbro.

If the results hold up under a recount, Yarbro says he’ll be the first to congratulate the 84-year-old Henry.
