Fort Campbell says two 101st Airborne Division soldiers died Friday in Afghanistan.
Spc. Jared C. Plunk and Spec. Blair D. Thompson were killed when their patrol came under attack from small arms fire and rocket propelled grenades in the Konar province.
27-year-old Jared Plunk is from Stillwater, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Lindsay and sons Kason Plunk and Noah Fisher – all of Clarksville – and by his mother Glenda Willard of Maryville.
19-year-old Blair Thompson hailed from Rome, New York. He is survived by his mother and father, both of New York.
Meanwhile, a soldier from Knoxville died last week from non-combat injuries.
The Department of Defense says 20-year-old Pfc. Robert K.L. Repkie died at the Forward Operating Base Farah in Afghanistan. The army is investigating his death. Repkie was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
