Alexander Urges Obama Not Pick “Fringe” Supreme Court Nominee

Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander says if President Obama picks a “fringe” Supreme Court Justice to replace the retiring John Paul Stevens, he may vote no on the confirmation.

Alexander is chairman of the Senate Republican Conference and has been open minded about Supreme Court nominees, voting for President Obama’s first appointment – Sonya Sotomayor. Alexander says he didn’t like when Democrats tried to block President Bush’s nominees. But if President Obama picks “someone who will apply his or her feelings instead of applying the law,” Alexander says that might be a case when he can’t vote for the nominee.
