400 Layoffs Reported to State

Nashville-area companies reported more than 400 layoffs to the state’s Department of Labor and Workforce Development Monday.

Auto parts supplier Unipres USA Inc. laid off 125 employees from its Portland facility. The company provides parts for Nissan, Honda and Subaru and is currently in a summer shutdown. No officials were available to comment.

Metal fabricator Quality Industries in LaVergne laid off more than 100 workers, though some are being called back as economic conditions improve.

Also reported to the state was the final exit of 100 employees from Murfreesboro music distributor Handleman Company, which announced it would shut down last year.

In Davidson County, Gibson Guitar reported 50 layoffs. And the closing of an Informatix data imaging office resulted in 48 firings.
